The
Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh is famous for the numerous temples
of Goddesses.
The temples are JWALAMUKHI, CHINTAPURNI,
VAJRESWARI, BAGALAMUKHI,
and CHAMUNDA.
In November 2000, we visited all these temples and in these web pages
we would like to share the experiences with all the Devi Bhakthas.
The
temple of VAJRESWARI is in the town of Kangra. This temple is closely
associated with the history of India. Many invaders from Afganisthan
came to India specifically to loot this temple. Mohammed Gaznavi attacked
Kangra in 1019 AD and took away gold , diamonds and jewellery worth
billions. Even after repeated looting the temple remained prosperous.
An English traveller has mentioned in the eighteenth century that the
temple floor was laid with silver bars. However what the various invasions
could not do was done by nature and the temple was destroyed in the
earthquake of 1907.
